About Paul Pavao

I am married, the father of six, and currently the grandfather of five. I teach, and I am always trying to learn to disciple others better than I have before. I believe God has gifted me to restore proper theological foundations to the Christian faith. In order to ensure that I do not become a heretic, I read the early church fathers from the second and third centuries. They were around when all the churches founded by the apostles were in unity. My philosophy for Bible reading is to understand each verse for exactly what it says in its local context. Only after accepting the verse for what it says do I compare it with other verses to develop my theology. If other verses seem to contradict a verse I just read, I will wait to say anything about those verses until I have an explanation that allows me to accept all the verses for what they say. This takes time, sometimes years, but eventually I have always been able to find something that does not require explaining verses away. The early church fathers have helped a lot with this. I argue and discuss these foundational doctrines with others to make sure my teaching really lines up with Scripture. I am encouraged by the fact that the several missionaries and pastors that I know well and admire as holy men love the things I teach. I hope you will be encouraged too. I am indeed tearing up old foundations created by tradition in order to re-establish the foundations found in Scripture and lived on by the churches during their 300 years of unity.

For the Sake of Learning: War and Mankind

I have to pass on a very interesting article from Scientific American. That article has some very interesting thoughts, backed up with some things we know about tribal societies, about why men engage in war. Those things are worth thinking … Continue reading

The “I Found It” Bumper Sticker

Spiritually, you will know what you should and shouldn’t do. But that knowing is deep. It is easily overlooked by the lazy; it is easily ignored and explained away by those that find they don’t like discomfort, pain, or embarrassment.

But for those willing to suffer, it is the greatest and strongest power on earth. Continue reading

Genes Control Behavior?

I don’t have time for a real post, so here’s a quickie. Here’s an article on genes and behavior that makes a point I’m convinced from experience is true: Behavior can be changed; it is not merely controlled by genes. … Continue reading

Conflict Resolution

I really like A-B-C sort of teachings. I like to look at a couple Scriptures, point out what they clearly say, and apply them to us as Christians. I feel very secure doing that. I also like to be able … Continue reading

Undoing the Devil’s Work

I wrote a booklet that I really believe the Lord gave to me. I got the whole book practically dropped in my heart word for word on a 20-minute drive to work. When I got there, I sat down and … Continue reading

The Church Fathers and the Pope

I wasn’t going to blog today; I don’t have time. Nonetheless, I simply can’t let this pass. I couldn’t believe it when I read this: This is what stuck in Alex’s mind, and it led him to make a fateful … Continue reading
