oh I agree totally. I just wondered if there was more issues tho really I get it. People seem to grasp it to some degree but it often comes back to get it together rather than relying on the savior and His provision (the spirit) for righteousness.

I am used to hearing from you. Thank you. I love the interaction even when we are occasionally disagreeing.

There are so many Scriptures teaching us that we are powerless outside of the Spirit that I don’t know where to begin. There’s Jn. 15:5, of course. “Apart from me, you can do nothing.” Then there’s Rom. 8:13, which says it is by the Spirit that we put to death the deeds of the body. The next verse (I think) says, “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”

Galatians 5 is excellent, of course. It says things like, “Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.”

One I really like is Gal. 3:3 (I think), which says, “Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit are you now made perfect by the flesh?”

Or how about 2 Pet. 1:3-4, which precedes that passage I love about adding to faith. It says that we have received great and precious promises and that we are made partakers of the divine nature. That is the power which drives vv. 5-7, which I consider an incredible, beautiful, comprehensive picture of the Christian life. (Bing! New blog post idea! I’ll schedule that one for Friday.)

so by now you are used to hearing from me right? I do appreciate your posts both here and on Christian I have a request? I was raised in the Church of Christ and am aware of “the works” mentality they commonly express. I know that a lot of them believe salvation by works not by a saviour except to make up for what our best efforts couldn’t acheive. So here is my request are there other verses other than the ones pertaining to the work of the Spirit to will and to do in us the works of righteousness that I am not aware of that defeat them in their walk and faith?
